Infection Control & Staff Education Nurse (RN)

Position Summary
Western Horizon Living Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to serve in a hybrid Infection Control and Staff Education role for our 40-bed skilled nursing facility. This position offers flexible scheduling, with part-time to full-time hours available based on candidate availability and organizational needs.
This role is responsible for leading the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP) while also supporting staff development through education, training, and competency validation. The Infection Control & Staff Education Nurse plays a key role in promoting resident safety, maintaining regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and quality improvement.
Responsibilities include infection surveillance, outbreak response, policy development, staff education, onboarding support, and ongoing clinical competency training in accordance with CMS, CDC, and state regulations (including 42 CFR §483).
Key Responsibilities
Infection Control
Lead and manage the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP) in accordance with CMS §483.80, CDC, and state guidelines.
Conduct ongoing infection surveillance, data collection, analysis, and trending of healthcare-associated infections.
Develop, implement, and maintain infection prevention policies, procedures, and best practices.
Monitor infection control processes throughout the facility, including hand hygiene, PPE utilization, isolation precautions, and environmental cleaning practices.
Lead outbreak investigations and response efforts, including coordination with public health agencies as needed.
Collaborate with the medical director, pharmacy consultant, and clinical team on antibiotic stewardship initiatives.
Ensure compliance with employee health requirements, including immunizations, exposure follow-up, and return-to-work guidance.
Participate in audits, rounding, and performance improvement initiatives related to infection prevention.
Staff Education & Development
Coordinate and provide clinical education and training for nursing staff, CNAs, and other care team members.
Support onboarding and orientation for new clinical employees.
Develop and maintain annual education plans and required regulatory training.
Conduct skills assessments and competency validations to ensure safe and effective resident care.
Identify educational opportunities based on quality data, survey findings, incident trends, and observed practice gaps.
Provide just-in-time coaching and mentoring to staff to support best practices and continued professional growth.
Assist leadership with policy education and implementation of new clinical workflows or regulatory requirements.
Promote a culture of accountability, learning, and excellence in resident care.
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Dakota (or eligible for licensure).
Minimum 2–3 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in long-term care, skilled nursing, or post-acute care.
Prior experience in infection control, staff development, education, or quality improvement preferred.
Strong knowledge of CMS regulations, infection prevention standards, and long-term care operations.
Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
Compensation
Starting salary range: $33.84 – $41.75/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
