Position Summary:
Utilizing the nursing process, the RN Intern assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the delivery of patient care. In conjunction with the RN Preceptor and under the guidelines of the RN Intern’s respective nursing program, the RN Intern is responsible for: meeting the established Standards of Nursing Care, managing assigned personnel, and promoting collaboration among the disciplines.
Under the supervision & direction of the RN Preceptor:

Under the supervision & direction of the RN Preceptor:
Excellence in Practice
- Treats patients with respect and dignity. Providing privacy in all cares.
- Understands and follows physician orders. Has good technical skills and incorporates these into the plan of care.
- Nursing Process: Proper documentation, Medication Administration, Patient and Family Education and Charting with RN Preceptor oversight.
- Voices understanding of staffing mix and how assignments are made.
- Safely administers all medications and IV fluids as ordered by physician. Demonstrates knowledge of purpose, med dosage, calculation of dosage, expecting outcomes and adverse reactions.
- Effective communication skills: Appropriately informs preceptor, nursing staff and physicians of pertinent changes in patient condition. Clear and concise report. Follow chain of command.
- Critical thinking skills: Recognize significant change in patient condition and takes appropriate action, including notification of appropriate personnel and families.
- Good time management skills: Ability to prioritize and multitask. Completes assignments timely and accurately and makes hourly rounds. Flexible to both patient and department needs without interference to patient care.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintains equipment and reports equipment failures to Maintenance/Biomed and nurse preceptor.
- Provide clear education to patient and family.
Essential Job Requirements:
- Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program (ADN, Diploma, BSN).
- Experience: No experience necessary. CPR required.
- License Requirements: Current CNA or LPN license preferred, but not required.
